OSD College & Career Readiness

  • Welcome to Othello's College & Career Readiness program!  Our goal is to assure Othello's students have a post-secondary plan (after high school).  Beginning at the elementary level, we strive to expose students to their limitless options for career opportunities.  As students progress through our system, our programs get more intense and frequent, matching student interests with their abilities.  College & Career Readiness (CCR) fosters career considerations and knowledge of the next steps to take after high school. The program exposes students to the MANY options available after graduation.

What makes Othello's CCR program unique?High school students with hands together

The CCR program in Othello is a response to our data that reports 30%-33% of each OSD graduating class goes directly into the workforce after graduation, and most do not have specialized skills or a viable pathway plan. Research tells us that the earlier students explore career options and learn the route in which to get to those post-secondary opportunities, the more likely they are to be successful in their endeavors. When the parents of our students went to high school, the common message was, "Everyone has to go to college to be successful!" Fortunately, we are now in a time when the trend is moving back to the idea that, "Everyone needs post-secondary to be successful, but that looks a little different for everyone!  It might be voc-tech school, an art institute, military, apprenticeship, a religious experience, college, etc!"

  • Career & Technical Education (CTE) Offerings

The OHS Course Handbook describes all of the courses available through our CTE program, including Agriculture, Family and Consumer Science, Business and STEM Science.  We also offer Middle School STEM Science courses.  The mission of Othello's CTE program is to offer meaningful, hands-on courses and experiences that are relevant to current industry standards so tht students can be competitive in our local and global society. We strive to prepare them for college and career success and for life as independent adults.

Take a look at the OHS Course Offerings Handbook to read descriptions of all the classes offered at the high school.

     Career Pathways Wheel

The five OSD Pathways were created from Washington's 16 Career Clusters in order to help students learn, explore, and identify college or career avenues of interest to them. Check out the Career Pathways Page to learn more about the Agriculture, Business, Human Services, STEAM, and Visual & Performing Arts Pathways.

    Community Partnerships

We know that in a small town such as Othello, our community partners are paramount to our students' success! We have many ways that parents, business owners, and agencies can get into our schools to support our programs. Check out the Career Pathways section above, and contact Amy Parris for questions or more information.
