• Wahitis Parent Involvement Policy

    We are committed to working together to provide the best education for your children.  Please review our current Parental Involvement Plan.  We encourage and need your input in making our school the best it can be.  Thank you for being involved in your child’s education.  We look forward to a successful year.  If you have any questions, please call our school.

    Purpose: Here at Wahitis we are committed to providing your child with an outstanding, well-rounded education.  We teach in a very similar way from Kindergarten to 5th grade to ensure a comprehensive and coherent elementary school experience for your child.  We recognize the essential role of parents in these efforts and value their input.

    Goal 1: Provide parents with the opportunity to have input in the Parental Involvement Plan at Wahitis Elementary.

    Strategies

    • Provide parents with a copy of the school-parent involvement plan via school website before November 1, 2017.
    • Provide parents with opportunities to give input and suggestions for revision of the district or school plan through a variety of ways.

    Goal 2: Provide outreach for parents of limited English proficiency (LEP) students so they can be involved in their child’s education.

    Strategies

    • Coordinate with various community and county agencies to assist parents of LEP students.
    • Provide, whenever possible, pertinent school information in parents’ native language.

    Goal 3: Provide an opportunity for parents and Wahitis staff to modify existing School-Parent-Student compact.  This compact includes: Wahitis’ responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment; the way in which each parent will be responsible for supporting their child’s learning; and strategies that will address the importance of ongoing communication between teachers and parents.

    Strategies

    • Review the School-Parent-Student Compact annually for revisions by the Title 1 Committee.
    • Provide opportunities to review the compact with parents during parent-teacher conferences, Title 1 meetings, etc.

    Goal 4:  Provide notice and information under the “Parent's Right to Know” requirements to all parents by October 12, 2017.

    Strategies

    • Notify parents, via letter, that the faculty and staff are highly qualified and meet required standards.
    • Notify parents, via letter, if their teacher or paraprofessional in the classroom is not highly qualified.

    Goal 5:  Provide opportunities for parental involvement capacity building.

    Strategies

    • Provide orientation for parents interested in volunteering.
    • Provide activities at a variety of times.
    • Provide childcare during Title 1 meetings.
    • Conduct annual parent survey requesting parental input on workshops.
    • Utilize a variety of communication techniques to enhance parent participation.
    • Provide opportunities for community-based organizations and businesses to support parent involvement during parent-teacher conferences.
    • Provide opportunities to evaluate and identify barriers to successful parental involvement.
