    SENIOR LETTER

    During the final trimester of the senior year, we need to give you important information about graduation and other senior requirements.

    HONOR STUDENTS: At graduation, we will honor the OHS Valedictorian and Salutatorian. Mrs. Simpson will notify National Honor Society members who have completed the requirements to receive their NHS stoles. OHS Counselor, Mrs. Simmons, will hand out honor cords (3.5-4.0 GPA) from June 3rd-6th. Students officially enlisted in the military will receive cords; official documentation must be shown to their counselor. 

    REQUIREMENTS: Othello School District policy states to participate in the graduation ceremony, students must complete all requirements by May 31st. Odysseyware classes and advisory work must be completed by May 17th. Administrators, counselors, and teachers monitor all progress carefully, but parents and students are equally responsible for checking their graduation status. Please call Student Services at 488-3351 ext 2020 with questions. 

    CEREMONY: The graduation ceremony is Friday, June 7th at 8:00 p.m. at OHS Huskie Stadium. If you need handicap-accessible accommodation, please contact OHS Student Services. Each student will receive 8 wristbands for family members to sit on the field. Students will receive wristbands during graduation practice and any handicap notification. Families with wristbands will enter on 4th Street. Additional family members are invited to attend but will sit in the stadium on a first come first served basis. No balloons will be allowed inside the stadium. No lawn chairs will be allowed. Everyone will run through security. Only clear bags and clear bottles will be allowed inside the stadium. Water will be sold for $2.00 at the concession stand.

    Graduating seniors will meet at Wahitis Elementary and must arrive at 5:00 pm. Seniors will ride the bus to OHS and go to Huskie Court for a class picture. 

    Commencement is the most formal of the OHS graduation activities and is the last recognition for the Class of 2024. Caps may be decorated according to school guidelines (per OHS Administration). To ensure a classy and formal ceremony, silly string, beach balls, noisemakers, and other distractions are not permitted. 

    DRESS: All students must have the appropriate cap, gown, stole, and tassel to participate. We expect that seniors dress and act in a manner appropriate to the formality of the ceremony. Make sure your student irons their gown before the ceremony! 

    HIGH SCHOOL & BEYOND PLAN: Seniors must complete and pass their High School and Beyond Plan to graduate. This includes their Senior Presentation. 

    CAP & GOWN ORDERS: Students pay the balance owed directly to Jostens. No checks are accepted. If your senior has not already ordered a cap and gown, please contact the Student Services Office immediately. If students are borrowing a cap and gown, they must still purchase a stole and tassel from Jostens for the Class of 2024. 

    LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP EVENING: An annual recognition for seniors receiving local scholarships will be held on Tuesday, May 7th with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6:00 p.m. All seniors receiving local scholarships and their parents should attend. Students receiving scholarships or recognition at this event will be notified in advance. 

    SENIOR AWARDS CEREMONY: The Senior Awards assembly will be held on Monday, June 3rd, at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Gym to celebrate the Class of 2024. 

    SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS: Please list scholarships received by seniors in this Google Form here by May 17th or email grgarza@othelloschools.org Scholarships received after this date may not appear in the graduation program. 

    GRAD WALK: The Grad Walk is June 6th at 8:00 a.m. Seniors will meet in the corridor. Seniors wear their caps and gowns and visit all four elementary schools, the middle school, and DOHS to inspire other students to graduate. Seniors will also honor an influential staff member by presenting them with a personal thank-you letter. 

    BACCALAUREATE: Baccalaureate is a non-denominational, inspirational farewell service for seniors and families. Baccalaureate is not planned by the school and is not required for seniors to attend. Parents and students may plan this event. There is a group for parents of seniors to join (if you wish to reach out to other parents of graduation seniors): Team Reach, group code: OHS2024

    GRADUATION PRACTICE: Graduation practice is at Huskie Stadium on Thursday, June 6th, 11:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday, June 7th, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Attendance is required for all seniors to participate in the graduation ceremony. If a senior DOES NOT plan to participate in the graduation ceremony, please contact Mrs. Simmons or Mrs. Gracie Garza right away. 

    SENIOR BARBEQUE: The Senior Barbeque is Thursday, June 6th, 11:07 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. Parent volunteers are needed to help with the barbeque. Contact Bailey Wilson to volunteer at bwilson@othelloschools.org or join the senior parents' group: Teach Reach, group code: OHS2024

    ACTIVITIES: Activities known as senior skip day or senior trips are not school-endorsed activities. In the past, students have made poor choices and/or been injured in various ways during these gatherings. Please call the school with questions about authorized senior activities.

    FINAL EXAMS: Senior final exams are Thursday, May 30th, during 4th and 5th periods, and Friday, May 31st, during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd periods. 

    SENIOR CHECKOUT: Senior checkout is Tuesday, June 4th and Wednesday, June 5th during the school day. Check-out will be in alphabetical order by last name. Tuesday, June 4th, will be Alpha A-MARI and Wednesday, June 5th will be Martinez-Z. Students who are Running Start or missed their time can check out on June 7th after 11:00 a.m. Seniors must check out to participate in graduation practice. Seniors must return Chromebook, charger, case, and any library books and/or textbooks during this time. 

    ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES: Any student under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or other illegal substances at school or any school function will be disciplined per school policy; this includes denial of participation in the graduation ceremony. 

    PHOTOGRAPHY: Professional photography services by Dorian will be available for senior graduation ceremony pictures. 

    GRADUATION CEREMONY: The graduation ceremony will be live at: https://othelloschools.org/graduation for anyone not able to attend the ceremony in person.
