Othello School District Secures New Land for Future Growth
Othello, WA – In an important step toward supporting the future growth and development of the Othello School District, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce the acquisition of a new parcel of land better suited for the district’s long-term facility needs. This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort between the district, the City of Othello, and the Ochoa family.
The newly secured land is located north of Main Street, across from Walmart, and south of Lee Road in an area currently used for irrigated farmland. This location is considered one of the most likely areas for future growth in Othello, making it an ideal site for the district’s future needs.
In January 2017, the district purchased 80 acres on Lee Road in anticipation of future expansion. However, as educational and community needs evolved, district leadership has worked consistently over the past three years to secure a more suitable location. Through a strategic land exchange, the district has successfully acquired a new parcel that will better serve students and families in the years ahead.
As part of this partnership, the City of Othello will acquire the district’s previous parcel to develop water treatment facilities that will enhance essential infrastructure and improve services for the community.
Closing documents for the land exchange were officially signed by Dr. Perez on March 27, marking the completion of this important transaction.
“This is an exciting step forward for the future of our school district and the City of Othello,” said Board President Lindsy Prows. “We are grateful for the cooperation and collaboration with the Ochoa family and the city, which has allowed us to find the best possible solution for our schools and our community. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to growth, innovation, and ensuring the best opportunities for our students.”
