Carlos Gonzalez Named Principal at McFarland Middle School

March 15, 2022:

Othello School District has announced the hiring of Carlos Gonzalez Jr. as the next principal of McFarland Middle School. Mr. Gonzalez is currently an assistant principal at the school. He will be taking the leadership reins from Mrs. Jessica Schenck, who is transitioning to the district office as Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. Carlos will officially take the reins at McFarland on July 1. He has previously served as both principal and assistant principal at Othello High School as well as principal at Clarkston High School.

“Carlos has worked closely with Jessica Schenck for the past few years at McFarland as the school has undergone some transformative changes,” said Superintendent Pete Perez. “Transitioning him to the top leadership position at the school makes great sense and will ensure the continuity of that ongoing important work.”

“It’s great to have the opportunity in this community to make a positive difference. It’s great to be surrounded by positive people,” said Gonzalez. “I’m super proud to be part of an amazing team at McFarland.”

“He has a hunger for the work. He’s not afraid of it,” said Perez. “You look for someone who has the hunger and desire…this job is difficult. It’s the right time for him and for the school. I’m excited for what’s going to happen for the kids at McFarland.”

Mr. Gonzalez is a 1995 graduate of Othello High School.

The district will begin the search for McFarland’s next assistant principal soon.
