COVID Update
Superintendent Dr. Chris Hurst shared information with our Board of Directors during the August 11th meeting about state and local guidance for reopening schools. Our ability to reopen our schools to a traditional or even blended learning model depends on the ability of our community to significantly slow the rate of new COVID-19 infections.
Current advice from Governor Jay Inslee, OSPI, and our Adams County Health Officer is that schools should not reopen to traditional learning until the rate of transmission in the local community is below 25 new cases for every 100,000 residents over a two week period. Here in Othello, that means fewer than 5 new cases over two weeks.
Current transmission rates in Adams County are over 370 new cases per 100,000 residents over a two week period.
