OSD Executive Director of Business Services Resigns

Janette Bumgarner, Executive Director of Business Services for Othello School District, has announced her resignation. She has accepted a similar position with another Washington state school district. Bumgarner has served as OSD’s business director since May 2019. Her last day will be August 14th. Bumgarner has committed to leading the district through the 2020-21 budget approval process, which is already underway.

“Janette has been instrumental in helping bring clarity, transparency, and quality control to our fiscal department,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Hurst. “She is going to leave behind some big shoes to fill, but we wish her the very best in her new career adventure and thank her sincerely for her outstanding contribution to Othello.”

In her tenure with Othello School District, Bumgarner has helped Othello obtain funding available to districts that meet K-3 class size requirements, worked to provide staffing to meet breakfast after the bell requirements, and lead through an annual fiscal audit. “She hit the ground running in the midst of a transition period and lead through our budgeting process,” said Hurst.

Bumgarner said the decision to leave Othello School District was based on a desire to be closer to her family. “I have enjoyed working with the team at Othello very much. This new position gives me the opportunity to continue to do the work that I love while being closer to my family,” said Bumgarner. “I want to thank Dr. Hurst and the Othello School Board for giving me the chance to serve here. We are definitely parting as friends.”

Othello’s search for a new Executive Director of Business Services will begin immediately. “Janette has graciously agreed to work with us throughout the coming year as a contractor, in conjunction with an outside consultant until we find a permanent replacement.”
