OSD Facilities Update

Dear Othello School District Families,

As you know, Othello School District (OSD) has been working hard to educate students, provide meals to youth who need them and maintain some degree of normalcy for our community during the COVID pandemic.

As we continue to support students and staff, we are working just as hard to protect their safety and minimize the potential for exposure to COVID-19 as much as we possibly can.

With a continued focus on health and safety, we want to share an important announcement. The use of OSD school facilities (inside and outside) will not be permitted for athletics and other recreational activities until we receive further guidance from the governor,  the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), and the Department of Health about what reentry to school will look like in the fall. This guidance is expected to come out this summer and we will be sure to share OSD’s plan for reentry under this guidance as soon as we can.

The only exception to the use of OSD school facilities is the MMS track while the OHS track is under renovations. Although the MMS track will remain open, we ask our community to use it while maintaining social distancing guidelines from the WA State Dept. of Health.

We know this is a trying time for all of us. As our state begins to reopen, we want to be sure we are doing everything we can to keep kids, families and staff safe, which means closure of our facilities for athletics/recreational activities.

Thank you for your understanding and we will be in contact again soon.

Kenneth “Chris” Hurst Sr., Ed.D.
