I hope this message finds you well and that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. I’m writing to share information about changes to the length of this school year because of the COVID pandemic. In recent communication from our Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), OSPI Superintendent Chris Reykdal shared specific guidance for all superintendents across Washington regarding the last day of the school year for each district.
He stated that districts that will not meet the 1,027 average instructional hour and the 180 school-day requirement due to the COVID-19 pandemic will need to add five days to the calendar previously adopted by the district, and that no district will need to hold school past June 19th. Details are posted on the OSPI website under this link: School Days & Instructional Hours FAQs.
Based on our adopted calendar for 2019-2020, this means the last day of school for the Othello School District will be June 11, 2020.
