What to Expect When Winter Weather Hits

Decision Timeline
Decisions about delaying or closing school due to inclement weather are typically made no later than 4:45 AM. Transportation staff drive local roads to assess conditions and advise the Superintendent, who makes the final decision to:

  • Keep school open

  • Close school

  • Implement a 90-minute delay

  • Schedule an early release

How You’ll Be Notified

Othello School District uses multiple tools to communicate delays or closures:

  • Automated Phone Call & Text Message – Sent to the numbers we have on file

  • ParentSquare Notification – Make sure you’re signed up to receive alerts

  • Radio & TV Stations – Local stations broadcast updates

  • Online Updates:

Student and staff safety is our top priority. You have the final decision about sending your child to school.

  • If you choose to keep your child home due to weather, it will be considered an excused absence.

  • Please notify your child’s school and provide a signed note.
