Before & After School Extended Learning Program
21st Century Community Learning Centers
Othello School District, in partnership with 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC), offers free before and after school programs designed to support students academically, socially, and emotionally beyond the traditional school day.
This federally funded program provides safe, engaging learning environments before school, after school, and during the summer for students in grades 3–8.
Program Objectives
Academic Support
Students receive academic enrichment aligned with state and local standards, with a focus on reading and mathematics.
Youth Development
Programs support social-emotional learning, leadership, civic engagement, and life skills in a safe, structured environment.
Extended Learning Opportunities
Students participate in hands-on activities including STEM/STEAM projects, the arts, physical education, and career readiness programming.
Family Engagement
Families are invited to engage in literacy and educational development opportunities that strengthen school–family–community partnerships.
Who Is Eligible?
The program serves students in grades 3–8. While all students may be considered, priority is given to:

Students at risk of not meeting academic standards

Students who struggle despite school-day support

Students lacking supervision before or after school

Students living in poverty or who have experienced trauma

Students who can serve as peer tutors or program leaders

Students interested in leadership, STEAM, and enrichment activities

Students with strong attendance, minimal behavior concerns, and parent involvement
School & Program Alignment
To support student success, the Extended Learning Program is closely aligned with the school day:

Site Coordinators collaborate with teachers to share progress updates

Programming aligns with classroom instruction
-
Teachers check in with participating students
-
Teachers and students complete post-program surveys to support continuous improvement and OSPI reporting
Referral Process
Referrals may be submitted by parents/guardians or school staff.

School-day teachers review academic, attendance, and behavior data

Families are contacted and a referral form is completed
-
A permission slip is sent home and returned to the Site Coordinator
Important: Submitting a referral does not guarantee acceptance. Space is limited.
