The Othello School District is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students, regardless of their gender identity or expression. Our district respects each student’s right to be addressed by their chosen name and pronouns, and to access facilities, programs, and activities that align with their gender identity. We ensure that all educational records, communications, and school interactions honor the privacy and dignity of transgender and gender-expansive students.

The district prohibits discrimination or harassment based on gender identity or expression and follows state and federal laws, as well as our Board Policy 3211 and Procedure 3211P, to protect student rights. Every student and staff member in our district has the right to learn and work in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, free from harassment, intimidation, or bullying. “Harassment, intimidation or bullying” (HIB) refers to any intentional written, electronic, verbal, or physical act, including but not limited to slurs, rumors, jokes, threats, demeaning comments, exclusion, or other aggressive behavior that:

• causes physical or emotional harm (or damages property), or
• substantially interferes with a student’s ability to learn or participate in school, or
• is so severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, hostile, or threatening educational environment for any student, or
• substantially disrupts the orderly operation of the school.

Our district prohibits all acts of HIB, whether committed by students, staff, volunteers, or community members, and is committed to responding promptly and effectively to all reports. Everyone is encouraged to report HIB concerns to help keep our schools safe and welcoming for all.
